We recently had Barnum do major renovation of our oak floors. They replaced a significant portion, then sanded/finished the old and new.In a nutshell, they did a FANTASTIC job for a very fair price.We met with Gary Barnum at their showroom after getting frustrated with our local (Ames) options. We have large dogs who are very hard on floor finishes. Gary suggested using the Rubio oil finish vs a film-finish like polyurethane, then showed us the product in-use in their own showroom. Game changer for us, as refinishing is a simple matter 3-5 years down the road vs a full sanding like polyurethane finishes require. Plus, scratches are easily repaired.We were given a detailed schedule for material delivery, installation, and finishing, along with what traffic restrictions were needed and for how long. Every date was met exactly, and logistics communicated to us by the very-capable Madison (also a Barnum!) . We had a total of three different teams at our home; delivery, install, and refinish. ALL were great to work with, and true craftsmen. The care they took of the rest of our home was far above what we expected- even though the sanding is truly dustless, they draped every adjacent surface with plastic and sealed it with painters tape. In past flooring jobs (by other firms), we were left with a layer of dust over everything- took weeks to clean it completely. This time? Almost zero dust, and what very little there was it was confined to a small area.The installation of the new floor took 2 days, and you cannot see where new meets old, a priority for us.Refinishing took 3 days total. The odor during curing was a concern for us, but the Rubio product is very low-odor and not irritating. 4 hours after application, the odor was barely noticeable. A week after completion there is zero odor.The refinishing team was meticulous; even the hidden corners of our hall closet were sanded, scraped, and finished! They obviously take a lot of pride in their work.We are thrilled with our floors, and would highly recommend Barnum to anyone within Central Iowa. Truly excellent in their craft.
We had an emergency floor repair on one of our jobs. Jordan came out right away to help with a repair. From start to finish Jordan and everyone in the office was very friendly and helpful. Their pricing was fair and their work was exceptional, I would highly recommend this company!
A tenant left these hardwood, 100-year-old oak floors badly stained. Austin came out to give me an estimate and was very upfront that refinishing alone would not remove these spots. He gave me great tips on getting the stains out, as well as a quote that was flexible with partial floor replacement in case I wasn't able to. He answered all questions about my options clearly and patiently. In the end I was able to keep the original floors intact, and Barnum Floors did a beautiful job refinishing them. The project was completed on schedule and for the price I was quoted. Everyone I interacted with on the phone and in the office was also very friendly, professional, and helpful. I'll definitely return in the future.
As someone who is normally a DIYer, I was hesitant to hire someone to refinish my hardwood during a complete home remodel. After seeing the finished product Barnum provided, I can honestly say it was money well spent. They worked with me to figure out what repairs needed to be made to the existing floors and what finished look I desired. The crew was in and out as if they were never there; always cleaning up after themselves. I would highly recommend Barnum to anyone looking at getting their hardwood floors restored.
